Elizabeth Lowell (Author)
New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Lowell has more than eighty titles published to date with over twenty-four million copies of her books in print. She lives in the Sierra Nevada Mountains with her husband, with whom she writes novels und...
Elizabeth Lowell is the pseudonym of Ann Maxwell, the author of over 50 novels. Born in 1944 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she also frequently writes with her husband, Evan Maxwell.
Maxwell was interested in literature as a child, first classic literature then science fiction. She earned a degree in English literature from the University of California, Riverside. While home alone with her young son, she began avidly reading and writing. Her first book, Change, was published in 1975. She continues to write science fiction as Ann Maxwell.
As Elizabeth Lowell, her first published romance novel was 1983’s Summer Thunder. This was followed by 1986’s Tell Me No Lies. Her work as Lowell falls into several romance genres, including romantic suspense, such as 2010’s Death Echo and 2002’s Running Scared, contemporary romance, such as 2001’s Beautiful Dreamer, and historical romance, such as Winter Fire and Autumn Lover, both from 1996.
She has published nearly fifty romance novels since the early 1980s, when she branched out from science fiction at the advice of her agent. To distinguish the writing from her earlier titles, she invented her pseudonym by using her middle name, Elizabeth, and her husband’s middle name, Lowell.
Her romance novels have been bestsellers and she has received numerous awards for her work, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994 from The Romance Writers of America. She continues to write, though she has said that she has no plans to return to historical romance, preferring contemporary romantic suspense.
